Kendall and Kylie for plus-size fashion? Naw sis we good

When I first saw the headline I thought it was a joke. Then I browsed through the Ashley Stewart website and realized it WAS a joke.

The Jenner sisters are known for making headlines and for the most part I’m not baited into clicking but when I saw that a household brand like Ashley Stewart collaborated with the Jenners to create a collection I was confused but actually hoped that the sisters would bring a fresh line of offerings for a brand that I would recommend for “mature” ladies.

When I think of any of the Kardashian sisters the last thing on my mind is plus-size fashion so this collaboration is completely off brand for them. Nonetheless everyone has the right to step outside of their box for the chance to create something amazing. This collection does everything but amazes. It left me with more questions than answers. Here are the questions I have.

  1. Who is responsible for thinking this collaboration would appeal to Ashley Stewart’s mature plus-sized base?

  2. Did Kylie and Kendall actually have a part in selecting the looks?

  3. Why are there only 7 items as part of this collection?

  4. Is this a joke?

  5. Is this collaboration a publicity stunt?

  6. Is ashley steward moving in a new direction with their brand?

While I wait for my questions to be answered I think about how a lot of brands have been expanding to include more sizes, some have failed and others have gotten it right but as curvy girls wait for the rest of the world to include them in the fashion conversation brands like Ashley Stewart and Lane Bryant have always been a safe space.

I’m not in a good place about this because last week just last week Loni Love of “The Real” tweeted that there were no plus size icons.

Because the holidays are near I’m going to finisse this post by applauding brands such as Eloquii, Torrid and Fashion to Figure for giving us great looks and engaging with the community.
